A term that refers to the difficulty someone may have with learning and processing new information, such as difficulties with reading, spelling or maths. It is different to a learning disability because the person's underlying intelligence is not affected. The two terms are sometimes used interchangeably, but the distinction between them lies in whether a person's intelligence is impaired. SEE ALSO: Learning disability
